Utilisation:
The active element in CaSi is calcium. CaSi alloy is more economical than pure calcium for the treatment of silicon killed steel.
The Calcium treatment of liquid steel is essential with the objective of combining calcium with alumina and sulfide inclusions in order to control shape, distribution and fluidity of the so modified inclusions with following beneficial effects:
- Reduced caster nozzle clogging by the alumina (AI2O3) inclusions resulting from the previous aluminum deoxydation.
- Globularisation of the alumina and complex inclusions and consequently improvement of the transverse properties of the steel: ductibility and strength.
- Improvement of steel cleanliness.
With its strong affinity for oxygen and sulfur, Calcium is also used as a side effect for deoxydation and desulfurization.
It forms CaO first, followed by oxysulfides and finally sulfides CaSi.

Ca :Â 28 – 32%
Si : 57 – 62 %
Fe : Balance
Variations to these main elements and other residuals can be addressed on a case-to-case basis.

Coils can be delivered either horizontal or vertical depending on the design of the injection facility.
They can always be connected for a non-stop injection.
