Ferro Silicon Manganese

Ferro Silicon Manganese is mainly used in steelmaking for deoxidation, alloy addition and desulphuriziation in liquid steel. SiMn will react with Sulphur minimizing the formation of iron sulphides which has low melting point. During rolling, iron sulphides will become liquid causing surface cracking.

Application

  • Silicon Manganese alloy is mostly used in steelmaking process as a strong deoxidizer as it produce MnSiO3 and Mn2SiO4 (float on slag because of low density in large particles).
  • This indispensable composite is also used to increase the burnout rate in deoxidizing. While the burn-out rate of ferrous Manganese is only 29%, it is about 37-46% of burn-out rate when using Silicon Manganese alloy.
  • Silicon Manganese alloy can be added in the production of medium or low carbon ferro manganese.
