Ceramic Foam Filter

prod_CeramicFoamFilter

Description:

Ceramic Foam Filters are used in the filtering of steel, steel alloys and iron casting. It reduces the turbulence during casting and prevents foreign matter from entering the casting.

Filters does not chemical reacts with most metals and alloys.

Production process:

After batching the composition that consists of ceramic, water and additives, there are two most popular methods of producing Ceramic Foam Filters.

As the name of polymeric sponge method, the batch (ceramic slurry) is poured to impregnate polymeric sponge. Then it is burned out to leave porous ceramic.

The second method is called Direct forming method. Some additives is added into the batch to make reaction producing gas. Bubbles appear and then foam the mixture. After treating by heat and fire, the porous ceramic is formed.

The third method is named as Plastic Forming method. Batch is treated as the second method to produce gas. Then the mixture is added into a cylinder and forced through a die to form ceramic filter shape. Heating and firing process will leave out the final ceramic filter products.

Application:

There are huge amount of advantages when applying ceramic foam filters into steel/iron making industry:

  • Minimizing inclusions in refining process is ensured.
  • Reducing turbulent flow in liquid metal to prevent reoxidation.
  • There are various kinds of form and shape of filter to fit with size of those equipment in steel/iron making plant.
  • Improving the yield of casting as preventing slag and some of non-ferrous particles.
  • Improving physical properties of steel grades (tensile strength, impact strength, elongation and machinability, etc).
